ISO 14001 and 45001 - Do you need to build a legal register?

Updated: Jul 13, 2023

Are you being asked to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of your organisation's environmental compliance obligations?

What about H&S legal requirements?

Below is a list of suggested subject area (s) to consider:

Environmental

  • Pollution Control

  • Air

  • Waste and recycling

  • Chemical Hazards

  • Climate Change

  • Energy

  • Noise

  • Countryside Protection Planning

  • Impact Assessments

  • Water

Health and Safety

  • Fire

  • First aid and emergency management

  • Hazardous substances

  • Personal protective equipment

  • Health and safety management

  • Transportation

  • Physical hazards

  • Worker health

  • Work equipment

  • Food safety

  • Premises management

  • Product Safety

  • Work activities

A risk-based approach should be taken, i.e. organisations should start with the identification of the most important compliance obligation that is relevant to the business and then focus on all the other compliance obligations (Pareto principle).

Where appropriate, the organisation should establish and maintain a single document (such as a register or log) setting out all of its compliance obligations and have a process for updating the document on a regular basis.
